Thank You, from Our Family to Yours!
As we celebrate our 65th anniversary, we look back and reflect on the evolution of this Credit Union and our story.
The Texas Department of Public Safety employees were aware of the difficulties that themselves and many fellow DPS employees faced when trying to borrow money with little more than a steady paycheck for collateral. With a dedication to serve the financial needs of the DPS Employees, Mr. Fritz Christian, Treasurer, was successful in finding ten fellow DPS employees to join him, depositing a total of $50 and thus the Credit Union was born. On July 16, 1954 the State Banking Department officially issued Charter #412 to the Texas DPS Credit Union.
In the years that followed, the Credit Union opened its doors to also include the DPS employee’s family members as well as the community that surrounds the office in Austin, TX. The commitment and true driving spirit that started the credit union, remains the same today, as we celebrate 65 years.
With each new leader, starting with Odell Dancak, then Dean Doggett, Michael Riepen, and now Cassy Sass, the Credit Union has grown to meet the ever changing needs of our expanding membership. From introducing the first loan to launching our full-service mobile banking app, the Credit Union’s vision has been to educate, enhance and empower our members on their financial journeys.
The growth of this Credit Union would not be possible without you, our members. We thank you for your continued support and loyalty over the past 65 years. Whether you’ve been a member since the first day we opened our doors or have recently joined, we appreciate you choosing us as your financial partner and guide throughout your life.
Thank you from all of us at TXDPSCU!
